Affordable and Innovative Housing

Since the 2020 Census, Union City’s population has grown from 22,399 to 28,088, a 3.78% increase. Mayor Williams made homeownership for first-time buyers, empty nesters, and working families a priority. Under Mayor Williams' leadership:

  • Owner-occupied homes have increased by more than 38%
  • Total housing units have grown by 32.8%
  • Affordable micro-home communities like Union Park Cottages now combine housing with retail, green spaces, and connectivity.

Public Safety Enhancements

Mayor Williams has invested in community-policing strategies and new bicycle and motorcycle patrol units. Recent major investment in Union City's infrastructure:

  • $43,727 in Highway Safety Grants used to reduce traffic incidents and improve road/intersection safety.
  • $850,000 federal HUD grant secured for the Shannon Parkway Streetscape Project (10-ft wide multi-use trail, ADA-compliant sidewalks, pedestrian lighting).

Serving Seniors, Healthcare Access & Equity

  • Partnered with Grady Healthcare Systems to bring a 20,000 sq. ft. facility, 16-bay Emergency Department with 24/7 access, serving both adult and pediatric patients.
  • Expanded senior programs to include wellness classes, computer literacy, art workshops, and social events to support active aging.
  • Created housing opportunities for a true aging-in-place environment.

Literacy, Youth and Family Empowerment

  • Launched Project L.I.T. (Leadership, Innovation, Technology), a week-long workshop for teens to learn essential business, financial literacy, and tech skills.
  • Introduced a Bookmobile to bring books into neighborhoods.
  • Established the Mayor's Reading Challenge, expanded summer internships and youth leadership initiatives, and citywide Little Free Libraries to encourage literacy.
As part of Mayor Vince Williams’ literacy initiative, Union City coloring books were delivered to students at C.H. Gullatt Elementary.

Expanding Parks, Green Space and Recreation

  • Opened Eagles Nest Sports Complex: Miracle League field, skatepark, volleyball courts, fitness stations, and trails.
  • Broke ground on Veterans Park and Gateway Park, featuring memorials, boardwalks, and nature trails.
  • Secured ARC funding for new Amphitheater and park amenities.
  • Developed the Union City Greenline Trail: 10.2-mile wellness and mobility trail as part of “Reclaim, Renew, and Reimagine” Master Plan.
Union City’s ribbon cutting to open the Eagles Nest Sports Complex, a cutting-edge recreation space designed to promote health, inclusivity, and community engagement.

Mayor Vince R. Williams brings over 25 years of experience in the corporate world. Vince is a devoted husband to Sharon and dad to Nia. He is also a community leader, Associate Pastor, real estate entrepreneur, and graduate of several leadership institutes.
